Actors! You should be listening to industry podcasts!

Man…let me tell you I am a SLLOWWWWWWWW reader. I used to try going to parks and sit and read when it was warmer and that went well; until the ants started biting me, the bugs kept flying around, and I had to keep adjusting the angle of my book with the sunlight. I will say I loved the nature. When I discovered the wonders of audio-booking ( which I thought I wouldn’t like and which I don’t think is an actual word) I was amazed about how easy it was to stay engaged listening but still be active. I started listening every time I drove in my car and every time I went to the gym. It was so convenient and even if something distracted you, there was a button you could press to backtrack 10, 15, 30 seconds if you wanted. I started to delve into podcasts as well and discovered the amazing industry podcasts I’ve binged so far and wanted to share with you today:

• Actor CEO

  • This is the first industry podcast i started listening to that birthed my addiction. Mike Moreno brings a pleasant but educated voice to all aspects of the actor business and constantly reminds us how we are our own business and we need to build it as such. The vulnerability of the industry guests also helped ease the actor’s mind.

• Audrey Helps Actors

  • I’m pretty sure that I learned of this amazing podcast from listening to Actor CEO. This podcast comes with an infectious theme song that you’ll probably start singing randomly throughout the day. Audrey gives so many unfiltered tips into the industry and isn’t afraid to call out the business practices that you should avoid. She is a strong supporter of the Screen Actors Guild and always gives great insight to contract tips and terms you should know. I loved this podcast, learned so much, and its one of the top podcasts I recommend to any actor I meet.

• Back To One: A filmmaker podcast

  • One of the utmost things I appreciated about this podcast was the organized structure and straightforwardness. Each introduction was the same, no matter the actor caliber, and always started with asking the actor how they approached a script. It was amazing to learn from some of the well-known, talented, and busy actors on how they approached the work and built their characters.

• The Work w/ Bonnie Gillespie

  • I of course learned about this podcast around the same time I learned about her book “Self Management for Actors”, What a wonderful engaging person! Most of these are short and precise tidbits that are plugged in to educate you no matter what level you are as an actor. It also reiterates many topics you can learn in depth by reading her book (which I still haven’t finished even though I binged the podcast in-between reading).

• It’s a Slate of Mind

  • If your currently in Atlanta, you might hear some familiar voices in this podcast; Many of the guests are people here in the trenches with you and teachers. This is the podcast I’m currently listening to and I find myself finishing sentences and saying “yup” and “wow” as if I’m in the room with them. She flows through the sessions effortlessly connecting so well with every guest she has. As a former child actor she brings her experience growing within the field as technology advanced yet she brings that youthfulness and commonality as if she started the journey with you.

I’ve linked each title to the website of the podcast but you can find them on google podcasts. iTunes, spotify, etc. These podcasts really helped me be more productive with my time and build my knowledge instead of listening to the same repetitive songs on the radio.
